THE MAESTRO

"Rebeca Omordia is not your regular pianist, she is like a piano whisperer-if there is any such thing.... or it is like she tames the keys and commands them in ways few people can. She touches them and they make unbelievable sounds. When you watch her perform, you could hear a pin drop in the audience; she has a way with the keys that leaves everyone completely absorbed. It is like she has a secret language with the keys and they communicate back and forth.

Rebeca Omordia was born in Romania to a Romanian mother, and a Nigerian father.

She said she started learning the piano professionally when she was only seven years old, because in her words: ' I went to a specialist music school and was trained to be a pianist right from the beginning. From the beginning, she took part in competitions, performed in concerts and even appeared on national television.'

( That is an extra-ordinary talent).

She graduated from the National Music University in Bucharest and was later awarded full scholarship to study at Birmingham Conservatoire and later at Trinity College of Music in London.

Rebeca holds a Doctorate degree in music from the University of Music in Bucharest, Romania.

CLASSICAL MUSIC

Rebeca Omordia is an award winning pianist, composer, a talented arranger. interpreter, soloist, chamber musician, recording artist and artistic director. The Birmingham Post described her as “a pianist willing to take risks” and some people said she changed the face of classical music.

Rebeca describes herself as a promoter of Nigerian classical music.

She has toured Nigeria as a soloist with MUSON Symphony Orchestra in Lagos and Abuja, and she also has solo albums "EKELE" (Heritage Records) and "African Pianism" (SOMM Records) featuring the piano music by some African composers.

The Nigerian Guardian described her as the 'pianist who cast a spell on Lagos"

In 2019, she launched the world's first ever African Concert Series- London; a series of monthly concerts featuring music by African classical composers.

AWARDS

She won the 'Beethoven Prize', Romania 2007 and Bela Bartók International Piano Competition, Hungary 2010, She was also awarded the Delius Prize in 2009, which led to an extensive collaboration with the cellist -Julian Lloyd Webber. They both toured the UK, performing in renowned venues including the Wigmore Hall and Kings Place in London-at Highgrove for the Prince’s Trust and they made several live broadcasts for BBC Radio.

Rebeca is a skilled arranger; her arrangement of “The Seal Lullaby” by Grammy-winning composer, Eric Whitacre, for cello and harp, was released on Deutsche Gramophone. She has performed with many world-renowned artists such as Amy Dickson, Raphael Wallfisch, Răzvan Suma and Jiaxin Lloyd Webber. Rebeca’s recording with Mark Bebbington- “The Piano Music of Ralph Vaughan Williams” reached No. 3 in the UK Classical Music Chart.
Rebeca Omordia was a jury member in the 13th HRH -Princess Lalla Meryem International Piano Competition in Rabat, Morocco.
She was awarded the Honorary Membership Award from Royal Birmingham Conservatoire for her services to music.
